From Runway to Retail – Exploring the Diverse World of Female Modelling

As the blog title suggests, modelling is diverse.

Gone are the days when the word “model” only evoked images of similar-looking models parading up and down catwalks in attire not often seen in public. Sure, catwalks are still relevant in 2025. We respect any form of model because they all serve an important role in the industry, and catwalk (AKA runway) models are vital for fashion houses and businesses to grow.

Now, more than ever, all the various kinds of models coexist in the same world, each with their own purposes and unique qualities. There are more than enough opportunities for female models. These chances are largely created by proactive, responsible employment agencies whose job is to liaise with the brands that require in-demand models.

We work with the largest number of brands of any modelling agency in the UK, so this gives our registered models the best chance of being picked by the companies that need them the most. And when it comes to diversity in the commercial modelling industry, female models have plenty of job openings in which to shine. There is diversity in every section of the modelling world, although it’d be naïve to suggest that we don’t see diversity more in female modelling than in any other type. This probably stems from the many products aimed at females; the cosmetics, fashion and beauty sectors are huge, and retail sectors take advantage of modelling talent to appeal to the biggest pool of customers – brands know to cast their marketing net wide enough to attract those who may be interested in their products. Lots of models are multi-talented, meaning that they don’t merely specialise in regular fashion posing.

Whilst fashion posing remains highly sought-after, plenty of our models are chosen for other types of assignment, which we’ll highlight below. The breadth of modelling types emphasizes how models – especially female models – can adapt and venture into areas of the modelling industry (and some you may never have thought of). Did you know that hand and feet models exist? If that sounds too niche, think about the range of cosmetics, jewellery and beauty products available both online and on the high streets. The industry value for these three types of products alone is worth billions of pounds. Therefore, it’s not surprising that brands look for models with perfect hands and flawless feet. And, you guessed it, female models are the most desirable.

Diversity is emphasized in companies looking for petite and plus-size female models – and everything in-between. We have more products on sale than ever, so brands need a full range of models to accommodate their marketing needs. Female models can also let their hair do the talking. But even if you’re not picked as a hair model, your luscious or unique locks can really stand out to our clients in a range of jobs. Add on the equally sought-after disabled models, tall models and sporty models, and you can see how much we’ve progressed from the runway. Ladies – the commercial modelling world is in your hands!
