Securing work as an extra in a film, TV show, commercial or stage/musical performance is very exciting! It’s a step in the door to get the opportunity to work in the industry and make the contacts you need to progress.
An extra normally appears in a nonspeaking or nonsinging capacity and usually in the background of a particular scene, some productions require large amounts of extras and other only need a few it completely depends on the project and the overall look.
Models Direct provides extras for many different clients in the industry and recently Molly from the Models Direct assignments team has been organising 50+ extra’s, adults and children for a large period drama film, being shot in Southampton – super exciting!
This week we have Dhruv, Rianna, Saheel, Jake, Sohaila & Zain from Models Direct on set and working with the production team, they will be acting different parts and are super excited to land a role in such a big movie that will be in our cinema’s soon!
Well done from everyone at Models Direct!

The demand for animals in advertising is big and growing all the time! With only seconds to capture your audience’s attention, a witty comment or a cute animal works well!
We have all seen animals used in commercials for lots of different brands and high street stores. Buster the Boxer in the John Lewis Christmas commercial, McDonalds, Perina Dog Food, Whiskers…..the list goes on!
What could be better than spending the day having fun, getting messy outdoors with your family and being paid for it??
That’s exactly what our model family ‘The Burtons’ were selected for! The Models Direct Assignments team were contacted by a production company who were filming a promotional video for the NSPCC’s latest campaign, the #Messathon looking for a model family to star in the video.
The Burton family were successfully selected and had to spend the day outdoors, getting messy and having fun while being filmed – what a lovely day! AND they were paid for it!
Modelling might not be the first thing you think about when you are pregnant, however there’s a big demand for Maternity models!
Our little model Radisson secured his first assignment landing the starring role in a commercial for a new nursing/sports bra – at 1 yrs old that’s a massive deal!
For a mum it can be very nerve wracking taking a toddler on to a set with crew, models and of course expensive equipment, non of which are toddler friendly. The team at Models Direct always do their very best to make sure mum’s (and dad’s) are fully briefed before taking their little ones to assignments, but it always helps to hear other mum’s experiences of working in this industry with a toddler in tow – check out Radisson’s mum’s feedback:
