There’s so much to love about family modelling.

There’s the camaraderie of a spending a day or two away from home – almost like a paid holiday! Plus, most family bookings tend to demand higher modelling fees because of the amount models involved. Families cherish their modelling experiences, and we really enjoy reading about their collective experiences.
Family modelling is very realistic, and we appeal to all existing families registered with Models Direct to experiment with reels and photos to support their e-portfolios. This lets us and our clients know that you take modelling seriously and do not rest on your laurels. We constantly advise any model to regularly update portfolios with new images and reels, and family modelling is no different.
Now is the perfect time to think about the summer. We have jobs for families of all sizes around the year, although pre-Christmas and the summer are two of the busiest times for families itching to work with the best brands.
Preparation is crucial in most aspects of life; models should know that refreshing their looks through their personal portfolios plays a large part in their responsibility to give themselves the best chance of securing jobs. So, we advise families to update their latest photos with the best photos that reflect the summer.
The most obvious – and popular – summer jobs are provided by the holiday / leisure / travel industry. We have many examples to show our readers, but we’ve highlighted the Horwood family, who secured a fabulous job incorporating three generations in rural Sussex. From grandchildren to grandparents, this is a fantastic example of how leisure brands need families for their marketing purposes. There was no fancy razzmatazz or AI here, folks – just simple but remarkably effective real-life modelling. And the results were suitably effective – read how the family got on here.

We’ve placed families on 4-day assignments in the South of France (the most envious of our opportunities?), as well as in numerous other locations. For families, modelling opportunities can take them farther afield than a lot of other assignments.
You may be thinking what are the best photo ideas to prepare your family for the summer. If you get them just right and upload them to your portfolio, you’ll be at least one step closer to being chosen by our clients.
1. Rock your Bermuda shirt & shorts combo – and not just for the males, either!
2. Whilst we don’t allow hats and sunglasses when submitting two photos in the initial registration, get in the holiday mood by snapping your family wearing these accessories. Our clients will enjoy seeing families in summer mode ahead of sending their job briefs to us.

3. Try to vary the backgrounds in your family photos. We don’t just want to see photos of smiling families in a well-lit room; for summer jobs, opt instead for sunlight meadows (watch for glare, though), outside pools and beaches.
4. If you need a little summer help, apply a thin layer of fake tan lotion a couple of times the day before you take the pictures, then another layer three hours before. Whilst we advise models not to rely on these products, they can give models a summer boost for portfolio photos…and, always read application instructions!
5. What clients are looking for in summer-friendly families is to sell a product. Therefore, don’t underestimate the power of photos / reels demonstrating your true collective happy aura. Be natural, and don’t force smiles!
Besides the standard (but very effective) family photos, models can enhance portfolios to reflect summer themes. Try anything that’ll stand out, and make us and our clients take notice!
