It’s evident to see that the face of advertising is constantly evolving. One of the reasons for this change is to match the demographics of the population it’s aiming towards. Makes sense, right?

If you’ve been taking note of the latest print and digital campaigns, then you’ve probably seen models of all shapes and sizes come to the forefront and be the stars of the show.
Plus-size models *are* the revolution. Gone are the days when we’d see people with the sharpest jawlines and flattest stomachs bombard us in all types of advertising. Commercial modelling is certainly a modelling category where we’re seeing real people with real body shapes advertise products ranging from anything like pet food to supplements.
Having plus-size people front UK commercial advertising is not unusual now, and it’s great to know that our modelling agency, Models Direct, has been part of this incredible journey during our 35-year presence.

We’re not stopping either. We’ll continue to keep moving forward and making sure that we glow up all our plus-size and curvy models who want to enjoy this profession by matching them to the perfect client who is requesting their look.

Having size 14 plus talent on billboards, TV screens and in print means that audiences can see them, relate to them and feel connected to them and the message of the campaign. It does go beyond just the fact that they’re curvy.
Plus-size models are:
Inspirational to others – young and senior. When someone sees them, they can feel connected to them and imagine themselves in their shoes, strengthening their opinion of what is being advertised. Curvy models can inspire audiences and might make them feel body positive about their size, especially if they see someone like them in the spotlight.
A realistic representation of the general population. Yes, you’ll have people with varying body shapes and sizes, some under size 14 and some over, but just as the population has this variety, so does advertising to reflect this.
Inclusive and diverse. This is why brands and companies know it’s super important to encompass everyone in the population so that people can feel like they’re a part of something bigger than just looking at the screen or a magazine with people they wouldn’t normally relate to.
Confident! They are proud of who they are and getting themselves out there by being seen and heard in UK advertising.
There are a lot of positives about having curvy, big and tall, and plus-size models fronting UK advertising. Whether it’s for a new plus-size fashion collection or to represent a charity, anyone of any size can enter this modelling niche and make an impact!
