The media and film industry always needs supporting artists, extras! It’s a great way into the industry and means you might get to share the set with A list movie stars!!
You have probably wondered at some point where all the people come from in the background of films, commercials and TV Drama’s, they are not there by coincidence – they are extras! Models Direct represent Extra’s to the film and TV industry!
Our lovely model Carmen started the New Year with a bang and was successfully selected for a super exciting assignment being an extra in a commercial for a global tech brand!!
“Yesterday I was given a filming assignment from Models Direct for Nokia. It was a great start to the new year. I made lots of new friends. Thanks Models Direct for this opportunity. Happy new year.” – Carmen
Check out what Carmen has to say about her experience:
“This was the first commercial set that I’ve been on and boy was it a movie!”
Being an extra can be a very exciting role to be selected for whether it be to appear in film, theatre or TV!
Most TV dramas, films, commercials, campaigns, music videos and theatre productions will include extras in some way. It could be a crowd scene that requires lots of additional people, a walk on part (non speaking) or a large scene, battle, party, street, public place that needs to appear full and busy – all these people have been booked as extra’s!
Models Direct often receive enquiries from production companies looking to book extras, they generally don’t have very specific requirements and acting experience is not always necessary. The client may need a particular age group, look, gender or ethnicity depending on the project, so the Models Direct team will source the ideal people.
“I’ve had lots of feed back from the filming and we can’t wait to get some more work, Hugo loves being in the limelight. Thanks to Models Direct for giving us this opportunity to show off the lovely Mastiff breed to what they’re all about, The Gentle Giant!” – Ronnie Miller (Hugo’s owner)
Hugo is such a beautifully natured dog and truly is the The Gentle Giant his owner Ronnie Miller explains him as – the Models Direct team were delighted Hugo was selected to star alongside Tony Robinson on the latest episode of Britain’s Ancient Tracks on Saturday night on Channel 4.
The modelsdirect.com website has undergone a ‘facelift’ and we are super pleased with it!

When signing your child up with Models Direct it’s every parents dream to hear their child has been successfully selected to star in a large feature film that will hit our screens in 2018! That’s just the call our Assignments Manager, Molly had to make to 8 parents of our selected child models!
Securing work as an extra in a film, TV show, commercial or stage/musical performance is very exciting! It’s a step in the door to get the opportunity to work in the industry and make the contacts you need to progress.
An extra normally appears in a nonspeaking or nonsinging capacity and usually in the background of a particular scene, some productions require large amounts of extras and other only need a few it completely depends on the project and the overall look.
Models Direct provides extras for many different clients in the industry and recently Molly from the Models Direct assignments team has been organising 50+ extra’s, adults and children for a large period drama film, being shot in Southampton – super exciting!
This week we have Dhruv, Rianna, Saheel, Jake, Sohaila & Zain from Models Direct on set and working with the production team, they will be acting different parts and are super excited to land a role in such a big movie that will be in our cinema’s soon!
Ashleigh found herself modelling, signing and dancing on her Models Direct assignment for a well known crisp manufacture. Posing in front of the cameras, trying to create a ‘party’ atmosphere for the Models Direct client helped Ashleigh with her modelling experience. And the most enjoyable part was? ‘…well, most of it really. I joined the modelling agency because I like the idea of modelling on the side as I love taking photos, and the money and trying new and different things’.
We’ve had word from Models Direct model Megan who tells us in her review video about how she manages modelling while studying for a degree. Her first modelling assignment involved posing in winter coats while the photographer took her picture. A great experience for Megan as she looks to extend her skills as a model and actor.
It’s another modelling video to add to Annie’s modelling showreel. This time, for her third Models Direct modelling assignment, she’s promoting contact lenses. Annie had no problem learning the short script and delivering it to camera.
