Here comes the sun – top tips to get fit for the summer!

The warmer weather is really here, and we are celebrating the summer months.

And after the ups and downs of the past few years, we all deserve a little summer fun!

With just a few months to go now, now is the time to start preparing for the summer.

This is the moment to start making a few plans, getting fit and healthy – and working to lift your spirits so you feel absolutely fabulous and can really make the most of it.

Models come in all shapes and sizes and here at Models Direct we love to be body positive and always encourage everyone to feel confident in who they are and who they want to be.

At the same time, however, we all know the value of keeping fit and improving our health – and we recognise that when we feel fitter in our bodies, we often feel much better mentally too.

So why not consider planning a fitness regime?

Here are our top tips to get you moving towards summer:

*Think about trying to work a high intensity interval training (HIIT) session into your routine two or three times a week. The benefit of a HIIT session is that, while it only takes 15 to 20 minutes, it offers a superb workout. Try doing it as soon as you get up and before you have breakfast. That way it will slot easily into your day – and you won’t talk yourself out of it when you feel exhausted later on. Look online, there are plenty of free HIIT sessions to choose from, including many led by renowned and reputable fitness experts. Make sure you opt for one for beginners – and remember not to overdo it when you first start.

*Put the work shoes in your backpack, pop your trainers on your feet and pledge to walk all (or at least some of) the way to work whenever the weather is fine. If you catch the bus, hop off a couple of stops early. If you have to drive, try parking further away.

*It’s a bit of a cliché but it never hurts to repeat it! Don’t take the lift or the escalator, use the stairs instead!

*Meet your friends for a walk in the park, rather than a sedentary coffee or lunch.

*Dig your bicycle out from the back of the garden shed and get pedalling – a bike ride at the weekend can be great fun as well as energetic.

*Finally, have a look to see what drop-in exercise classes there are in your area in the evening. Try to find one or two that take place not long after you are back from work or studying, or after you have finished sorting the children out. Get yourself along to the class before you decide you feel too tired and talk yourself out of it. Try to choose something that is fun and will lift your spirits – Zumba, Bollywood or street dancing will all help you towards your goal of getting fighting fit, and will give you a good giggle at the same time!
